Alfalfa has a number of uses as a companion plant
ALFALFA
Alfalfa (Medicago sativa) is a deep-rooted perennial that helps to hinder evaporation, lessening time between waterings and helping other plants out during dry spells. Alfalfa is a nitrogen fixing plant and also accumulates iron, magnesium, phosphorous and potassium. Those five minerals are music to any organic cannabis grower's ears.
Alfalfa encourages dandelions, another deep-rooted plant that will move in when the alfalfa dies back. Continuing to break up the soil and aid water penetration and retention. Remember when planning your garden that alfalfa can grow to a metre tall. Trimming stalks and tops regularly, drying out and making a healthful tea to spray on the whole garden. Alfalfa tea is renowned for encouraging growth in other plants including cannabis. No need to wait for those dandelions to arrive on their own, because Dandelion comes as seed too, a low perennial rosette next to all that alfalfa height.
It notably repels lygus bugs and attracts predatory wasps and assassin bugs, but should be planted with other species that repel aphids, army worms and alfalfa weevil. Ladybugs are attracted by alfalfa and are a beneficial boon to any garden, they are the lions on the Serengeti of your cannabis plants. Deep rooted and perennial, it wants full sun and ground that drains, and spring is the moment to sow, so it fits neatly with our flower seeds for companion planting. Staying in the legume family but hugging the soil instead of standing up, White Clover is sold as a Buddy Pack too.
