Note: While rue has traditional culinary and holistic uses, its use has largely been discontinued. In fact, rue can cause gastric irritation in some people and shouldn't be consumed by pregnant women or people with liver issues. Direct contact with rue leaves can also cause skin irritation. Sunlight makes that reaction worse, so pull on gloves whenever you weed or prune around the plant. Gardeners after something taller for the same sunny, well-drained border often add Lovage (Levisticum officinale) Seeds, a leafy perennial that stretches towards 2m while rue stays a knee-high woody bush. Norwegian Angelica (Angelica archangelica) Seeds run on a shorter clock, being biennial: leafy stems in year one, flowerheads and seed in year two, then the plant is finished. Summer Savory (Satureja hortensis) is the annual of the group, sown fresh each spring for leafy tips you snip all summer. Our range of wellness and garden plant seeds holds plenty more for a hot, dry corner.
